Personal Training
Don’t worry if you don’t have equipment. I’ll bring whatever is necessary to give you a good workout. I use dumbbells, stability balls, stretch cords, and other portable gear. Along with body-weight and manual resistance techniques, we can get the job done without requiring you to make a major equipment purchase.
I provide the help you need to learn to get more from your workouts. I will teach you how to use the equipment in your home as well as the equipment that I bring to your home to work out. I will teach you correct technique, proper form, and how to breathe during your workouts.
I am a Certified Fitness trainer through ISSA. ISSA certifications are recognized world wide, ISSA was the first organization to offer personal training certification and create specialized courses for fitness professionals.
The International Sports Sciences Association’s advisers and authors are some of the most prestigious and respected names in the fitness industry. The years of scientific research they have conducted, the hundreds of professional publications, and college text books they have authored, is the basis of virtually all exercise, physiology, nutrition, and fitness courses taught around the world.
My Approach
Our first meeting is a free consultation, this takes about an hour. In this meeting I will come to your home and ask you a bunch of questions about your health and fitness background. Next, I will discuss your objectives so that I can lay out an overall plan to get you where you want to go.
The plan will include an “Exercise Recommendations” talk which details:
Aerobic exercise recommendations – type of exercise (treadmill for example), frequency, duration, and intensity level, based on heart rate. I’ll explain the concept of your training heart rate zone and how to use it in your training.
In the strength training section, I typically recommend 12 to 14 different exercises to target all of the major muscle groups of the body. The mix will largely be determined by your objectives and exercise background. I will also be careful to include any appropriate rehab or preventive maintenance exercise.
Flexibility work is often overlooked but is extremely important, particularly as we age. I will describe some basic stretches useful for everyone, and then those that are especially good for your individual circumstances.
I will probably expect you to do part of the recommended program on your own, and other parts with me. Usually that means doing your cardio work on your own and strength and flexibility work with us. I will establish your cardio program and monitor your performance, but I will generally not stand there and watch you walk on a treadmill, for example.
If you choose to work with me, I can at this point start talking about scheduling future appointments. If not, you can just take my recommendations and train on your own. In either case, you’ve received a full hour of one-on-one attention from a highly qualified fitness professional. Give me a call, and I can set up a convenient time to come to your home.
